Trinidad is about a half-hour drive north of Eureka and an
hour or so south of Crescent City.
Trinidad History
The history of Trinidad is rich and fascinating. Originally
inhabited by the Yurok people, the area was discovered by Spanish explorers in
the 18th century. It later became a bustling port town during the gold rush
era.
In 1870 it was incorporated as a city, but with a population
of just over 300, it’s one of the smallest incorporated cities in California. Today,
Trinidad retains its historic charm while offering modern amenities.

Climate
Trinidad enjoys
a mild, coastal climate influenced by the Pacific Ocean. This means you can
expect moderate temperatures year-round.
- Mild temperatures: Rarely gets extremely hot
or cold.
- Fog: Common, especially in the mornings and

- Rainfall: Most precipitation occurs from November to
April.
While Trinidad doesn't experience the dramatic
temperature swings of inland California, it's always a good idea to pack layers

- Spring (March - May): As the rain begins to

Captain Beefheart
One of Trinidad’s best-known residents was Don Van Vliet,
who gained success as the eccentric rock musician Captain Beefheart, He lived
in Trinidad all his life, from 1941-2010.
